Walt is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Colette Atencio; three sons: Stephane (Lisa) Atencio, Nicholas (Kathleen) Atencio, and Gregory (Ann) Atencio; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and, two brothers and one sister. Walt is preceded in death by his son Eric Atencio, his parents Teofilo and Elevina Atencio, and two brothers, Austin Atencio and Clarence Atencio.
We will gather for a funeral procession on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. The funeral procession will be departing the funeral home at 8:45 a.m. All attendees are encouraged to join. A committal service with military honors for Walt will be held Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209. Following the committal service with military honors will be a celebration of life from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home.
A celebration of life will also be held in Conejos, Colorado, on October 14, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Hall (6633 County Road 13, Antonito, CO 81120).
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made by donation to the Alzafar Shrine Temple Hospital Transportation Fund, 901 North Loop 1604 West, San Antonio, TX 78232-1040.
