
Captain William A Kiernan (U S Navy retired) beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on 13 August, 2010. Born in Winslow Arizona on 21 April, 1922 he was the son of Thomas Edward and Grace Powell Kiernan. He enlisted in the Navy in August 1942 and retired in Jun of 1973. During his distinguished career, he earned a commission in the regular Navy, and served as a Naval Aviator as a carrier dive bomber pilot during the invasion of the Marianas, and later as a carrier fighter pilot to the end of the war. While in the Navy, He earned a BA and an MBA degree from the George Washington University and had numerous subsequent assignments including several afloat and ashore commands. His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Presidential Unit Citation, and numerous campaign and unit awards. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Marguerite (Peggy) Jane Kiernan (Mueller) and his son Thomas. After his Navy retirement, he and Peggy traveled the world, visiting many continents and interesting cities. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn F. Morey, and sons William E. and Robert A. Kiernan. He was a beloved step-father to Margot J. Reynolds, James A, Richard T. and Robert C. Brimson and many grand, and great-grand children. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched. A memorial service will be held for him at the Army Retirement Community in San Antonio, and he will be laid to rest in Winslow Arizona.
