William Anthony "Bill" Kopfer, age 82, entered into eternal rest peacefully on July 5, 2026, in Universal City, Texas. Born on August 16, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Walter Kopfer and Rita Nix, Bill lived a life defined by honor, unwavering devotion to his family, and a joyful Christian faith.
A Legacy of Service
Bill dedicated 62 remarkable years of service to his country, beginning his career in 1962 and serving with integrity until his retirement at the age of 80. His journey began with 25 distinguished years in the United States Air Force, including a year-long deployment during the Vietnam War.
His military assignments took him around the world. He began with an initial tour in Germany, followed by stateside assignments in Virginia and New Hampshire. He later served six years in England before returning to Germany for his final assignment, where he retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Throughout his military career, Bill was a highly skilled technician and respected leader who took great pride in ensuring our nation's aircraft remained mission-ready.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bill continued serving for another 37 years as both a civil servant and defense contractor. Widely respected for his expertise in complex radar systems and intricate component repair, he became a trusted mentor to many. Bill viewed his work not simply as a profession but as a calling, leading with patience, humility, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
A Life of Love, Faith, and Adventure
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill's greatest joy was his family and the life he shared with his beloved wife, Anni. Their love story began during his first military assignment in Germany, where they met and fell in love. Together they built a life rooted in faith, love, and adventure.
Over the 62 years of their marriage, Bill and Anni shared a passion for travel, history, and experiencing God's creation. In addition to their years living throughout Europe and the United States during Bill's military career, they later explored Alaska, Austria, Holland, Eastern Europe, and Italy. Together they cruised the Mediterranean, stood before the Great Pyramids of Egypt, and twice made sacred pilgrimages to the Holy Land.
Closer to home, Bill cherished life's simple blessings. He loved history—both the rich heritage of his New York upbringing and Anni's childhood in Germany. Some of his happiest moments were spent dancing with Anni, whether the waltz, cha-cha, or rumba, and enjoying meals and fellowship with dear friends at their favorite restaurants.
A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for many years, Bill lived his Catholic faith through kindness, generosity, humility, and service to others. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh, gentle spirit, steadfast character, and the warm smile that lit up his entire face.
