After a long and difficult battle with Huntington’s disease, William Wrick Markle went home to the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Despite his illness, he never stopped smiling and had a great sense of humor.
William was born September 19, 1961 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from MacArthur High School in 1979. He joined the US Navy and served honorably aboard the USS Belknap, where he received several awards and commendations.
After leaving the military, William graduated from Texas A&M Engineering Extension. He worked as an electronic engineer for Raytheon and Siemans Corporation. He enjoyed his job and traveling around the country learning everything he could about the places he visited.
William loved to go four-wheeling through the mud with his Blazer, and for rides on his Harley ~ and any day at the beach was a good day! He was an avid movie buff, and spent many happy hours at the movies with his best friend (and brother-in-law) Brad Martin. He also adored his pups, Marcus and Sandy, who were his constant companions.
Married for 27 years to Lori (Martin) Markle, they have two wonderful children, Cody and Cheyenne. William was a loving husband, father, friend, and son. He is survived by his mother, Carrie Price (Jerry), brothers John Markle and Robert Markle (Alys), and sisters Debbie Morgan (Elliot), Judy Lee (Mike), and Sharon Reynolds (Michael). Also survived by his in-laws who adored him: Lon and Patty Martin, sisters Susan Martin and Kimberly Martin (Todd Walker), brother Brad Martin (Terri) and niece Amy Martin Lynch (Ryan). The love and support of both families helped William manage his illness and keep a positive attitude.
The family would like to thank his caregivers Shye Sommerville and Becky Kreiling, and his hospice nurse Patty. They took such good care of him and brought much love and laughter to his life. Their assistance allowed William to receive care at home and to pass peacefully surrounded by his family.
William’s memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Grace Community Church (701 Kitty Hawk Rd, Universal City) at 5:00pm. A dinner reception will immediately follow the service at the church. He will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
