Alene Elizabeth Adkins Barrett was born January 20, 1923 in Princeton, West Virginia to the late Robert M. Adkins and Mary Ann Gold.

She is predeceased by James Milton Barrett Sr., husband of 65 years; six brothers and four sisters. She is survived by one brother, Raymond Adkins, Atlanta, GA.

She is survived by six children: Norma Kelson, Barbara Strange (Bob), James Barrett, Jr. (Kathy Temple), Anne Matthews (Buddy), Alice Zielke (Ron) and Walter Lee Barrett (Brenda).

She is survived by nine Grandchildren: James Johnstone (Grace), Steven Barrett (Karen) Pamela Kizer (Jim), Robert Strange (Melissa), Sonny Matthews (Jan), Sherri Matthews, Brian Matthews, John Zielke (Karan) and Jeff Zielke (Tracy).

She is survived by ten Great Grandchildren: Weston Barrett, Bradley Barrett, Paige Matthews, Sterling Matthews, Shane Matthews, Clay Zielke, Gavin Zielke, Megan Zielke, Josh Zielke and Zoe Zielke.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Rosewood Memorial Park, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
