Alice S. Hershley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 90. Born on September 11, 1934, in Acme Delco, North Carolina, Alice lived a life full of love, warmth, and dedication to her family.
Alice was a devoted homemaker, creating a nurturing and loving home for her husband and children. Her passion for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms that always graced her garden. An avid reader, Alice often found solace and joy in the pages of a good book. She cherished spending time with her family and had a profound appreciation for nature, frequently visiting botanical gardens and zoos. Her love for travel took her and her family on many memorable journeys.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isham Johann Blake and Thelma Carter Blake, her daughter Tannis Dawn Cottrell, her son Francis "Sonny" Hershley, Jr., daughter-in-law Kathy Nadeau Hershley, and seven siblings.
Alice's memory will forever be cherished by her devoted husband of 72 years, Francis G. Hershley, who stood by her side through life's joys and challenges. She is also survived by her loving children: Linda Hershley, Shari Hershley Ottesen, Anita McCorkle and her husband Marc, Jackie Hall and her husband Mike, and Janice Jones; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Her legacy of love and kindness continues through her family and friends who will miss her dearly.
In this time of mourning, we celebrate Alice's life and the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Her gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to her family, and love for life's simple pleasures will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 1-2:00 pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.
