Alvin S. Ellis, Sr.

Rev. Alvin Stanley Ellis, Sr., passed away on June 28, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Dad was the son of the late Alva and Lena Ellis. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Florence C. Ellis; he is survived by their three children Al Ellis (Sherry), Shirley Murphy, Jeanette Ellis Whitehurst; grandchildren Chris Ellis (Abby), Lynn Peek (Jon), Catherine Tippett (Jeff), Jamie Murphy (Pam), Jason Murphy, Megan Whitehurst and Carrie Ellis and Great Grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nathan, Aiden, Savannah, Andrew, Camden, Lauren, Barrett, Hannah, Bryce, Emma and Josh; his sister Karen Ellis of Virginia Beach and sister-in-law Martha Carroll of Barnwell, South Carolina and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He is also survived by his best friend Sammy.

Dad was ordained March 14, 1958 and served as pastor to churches in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. He loved his lord and served him even lying in the hospital bed offering his love to the personnel who treated him. Dad was a member of First Baptist Church Norfolk, he loved the Lord and enjoyed being with all of his church family. He will be truly be missed by all.

Visitation will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. A Funeral Service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, July, 1, 2015 at the funeral home. The Reverend Jamie Murphy of Indianapolis Indiana and Chris Ellis Grandsons of Alvin will conduct the service.
