

Electronics Technician Master Chief Petty Officer Arlie "Joe" McLauchlin, USN (Ret.), aged 86, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2024. Born in Carthage, Mississippi, Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Jesse McLauchlin, as well as his sister Virginia Taylor and brother Jeffrey Levon McLauchlin.
A proud veteran, Joe dedicated 22 years of his life to serving his country in the US Navy, retiring in 1978. His service included a commendable tenure in the U.S. Navy’s Silent Service, where he courageously served aboard submarines during the Cold War era, often enduring prolonged separations from his cherished family.
Following his military career, Joe embarked on a successful civilian journey, contributing his expertise to The Raytheon Company for 15 years, followed by roles at Trandes Corporation for 4 years and Chugach World Services, Inc. for 5 years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe was renowned for his adeptness in repairing televisions, affectionately earning him the title "the TV Man" as he generously lent his skills to friends and neighbors throughout the 70s and 80s. Additionally, he found solace in hunting and spending serene moments outdoors on his farm.
A loving husband of 58 years, Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine Blum McLauchlin, and their three sons: Jeffrey McLauchlin (April), Mark McLauchlin, and Matthew McLauchlin (Melissa). He is also survived by his sister, Betty Ryles, and four adored grandchildren: Joseph, Logan, Olivia, and Hallie.
A celebration of Joe’s remarkable life will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
