Audrey Hope Hodges passed away on November 2, 2025 at the age of 86 in Suffolk, Virginia. She battled with Alzheimer’s for 8 long years and is now rejoicing in God’s glory with Macon, her husband of 66 years, who passed away in August 2023.
Hope is survived by daughter Debbie Hodges; daughter Jan Henderson and son-in-law Jim Henderson; son Robert Macon Hodges, Jr. and daughter-in-law Carol Hodges; her sister Barbara Buchanan; brother Marshall Denny and his wife Carol Denny; and brother Raymond Denny. Grandchildren include: Courtney Ward, Amy Henderson, Andrew Henderson, Robert Macon Hodges, III, and Ashley Stallings. Great grandchildren include: Kennedie Ward, Lincoln Ward, Wilder Harris, Lennon Harris and Addison Stallings.
Hope was preceded in death by her parents, Israel and Hazel Denny; sister Sarah Hill; and brother Israel Vincent, III.
Hope was born in 1938 in Norfolk County. Her primary occupation was mother and homemaker. She had an unconditional love for her daughter Debbie and was devoted to ensuring Debbie was well taken care of and treated with love and respect. Hobbies included: sewing, scrabble, playing card games, making floral arrangements, and singing with Macon while he played the guitar. Hope kept up with many of her high school friends and enjoyed lunch dates with them in the later years.
There will be a very short graveside service for family, held at Rosewood Kellum on Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach, at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The family will join friends inside the funeral home for a Celebration of Life at 2:30pm where there will be a light fare of ham sandwiches, chicken salad, a veggie tray and cookies.
