Betty Berry White

Betty Jo Berry White, 94, passed away on December 3, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on August 8, 1927, to Joseph and Bettie Berry in Raleigh, North Carolina. She spent her childhood in Raleigh. She also spent some of her teen years with her sisters in Virginia and Maryland and returned to Raleigh, NC to graduate high school. During her high school summer break in 1944, she worked for the War Department in the Pentagon. After graduating from Needhambroughton high school in 1945, she moved to South Norfolk, VA. She met Maurice White, and they wed in 1947, going on to have 2 children, Rebecca and Stephen. They lived in Southern Pines, NC due to the Army stationing her husband at Fort Bragg. They traveled all over with the Army including three years in Germany. They returned to Virginia Beach where she worked thirty years as a civil servant for the Department of Defense. After retiring, Betty spent her time enjoying family, church, Woman’s Club, and Red Hats.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Bettie Berry, eleven siblings, husband, Maurice White, her son, Stephen White, and nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Martinette (James), grandchildren, James E. Martinette, Nicole Martinette (William), Fleet Martinette (Brooke), and great-grandchildren, Justin Hoggard (Madisyn), Carley Martinette, Dane Hoggard, and Tessa Martinette.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
