

Bruce Butler Sr. (67) was called home on October 23rd, peacefully and surrounded by his family both near and far. Bruce was the son of the late Leroy Butler, Sr. and Violet Butler. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, Papa, and friend to many.
Bruce was born in Norfolk, VA at Leigh Memorial Hospital. After graduating from Bayside High School, Bruce went on to work hard for several companies including, Farm Fresh, Coca Cola, and Nations Bank, where he retired. Bruce was a man of devout faith which was made evident in his volumes of spiritual poetry and his commitment to service as a volunteer chaplain at Kindred River Pointe Nursing Home. During his volunteer service at River Pointe, Bruce spent time entertaining the residents with his sense of humor and quick wit, and providing spiritual healing by praying for and with the residents and their families.
Left to cherish his memory is his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 46 years, Christine Butler; his three children, Bruce Jr. (Kim) of Virginia Beach, Timothy (Lisa) of Fresno, CA and Amie Cimmino (John) of Elizabeth City, NC; and five loving grandchildren, Bruce III, Isabelle, Aven, John Jr., and Ava. Bruce also leaves behind his brother Leroy Jr.; two sisters, Karen Cobb and Doreen Parsons; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he impacted and he loved very much.
The family would like to thank the medical personnel and staff of Sentara Leigh Hospital’s ICU unit and to all of those who reached out, sent prayers, and provided comfort during Bruce’s hospitalization.
The family will receive friends Friday October 28th from 6pm to 8pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral home (Jefferson Room), 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday October 29th at 11:00am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 233 Mann Drive Chesapeake. Officiating will be the Reverend Lottie Cochran.
