

Carolyn Hamilton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Carolyn was born in Liberal, Kansas on May 9, 1942, to Nellie and Vernon Applebee. She was the oldest of six children. After graduating from high school, she married Robert Hamilton in 1963 and moved to Norfolk, Virginia where they had one son Robert. In 1975 she moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 1979 she bought the house that she loved and called home for 46 years. In 1980, Carolyn met the love of her life Jim Anderson. They were together until he passed in 2014.
Carolyn loved Christmas and would decorate every room in the house. She also loved to entertain friends and family and would host parties on all of the holidays. She was the family historian and was always documenting her life through photos. Carolyn also loved to decorate her deck in the spring and the summertime with flowers. She was an exceptional seamstress and would make clothes, curtains, and blankets. She loved being a mother and grandmother “Meemaw” and was always available if and when she was needed. Carolyn's work history includes working as a bank teller working at Norfolk Scope, at Gloria Marshall Figure Salon, and as a bookkeeper for the Stuart R Gordon law firm and Kramer Tire.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her mother and father Nellie and Vernon, her brother Raymond, and her Knight in shining armor Jim Anderson.
Carolyn is survived by her son Robert and his wife Heather, her sister Sharon and brother-in-law Jim Garcia, her brother Mike and sister-in-law Judy Applebee, her sister Gloria and brother-in-law Larry Bender, and her brother Larry and sister-in-law Amparo Applebee. She is also survived by Vicki and Steve Splinter, Doug Anderson, Tracy Anderson, and Josue Baires. She is survived by her grandchildren Alexis Auvert, Nicholas Hamilton, Fiona and Seth Archibald, Lydia and Matthew Wright, Katie Moyer and Lauren Morea, Chuck and Ashley Moyer, Zach Splinter, Sarah Splinter, Frank Lloyd, Seth and Jamie Lubaton, Jacob Anderson, and her 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home located at 601 N. Witchduck Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23462 on Friday, July 31st at 2 PM. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM on July 31st.
A Committal Service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, US.
