Carrie Ethel Wethington

February 21, 1936October 9, 2020

Carrie Wethington, 84, went home to be with the LORD on October 9, 2020. Carrie was born in West Virginia to the late Richard and Dolly Mullins Cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Raymond Dolan Wethington, her two eldest children, Ronnie and Johnny, and her siblings Geneva, Thelma, Elsie, Luke, and Roger.

Carrie had a heart for loving God and loving people. She always aspired to feed anyone who entered her home. She had a wall plaque that read: “No matter where I serve my guest they seem to love my kitchen best.” She also loved to garden with her husband and canned the best green beans around. Carrie loved spreading the Gospel, singing with the Church, and caring for the homeless. She spent time as a Sunday school teacher and with a women’s mission group. Carrie ensured that her children’s shoes were shined and ready for every Sunday service.

Carrie loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren. She took her children to the beach when they were younger and she even continued to enjoy the beach late into her life. She also enjoyed listening to music and watching westerns.

Carrie’s life was one filled with love, grace, compassion, and laughter.

To be cherished in memory of Carrie are her daughters Kathy (Carl), Judy, and Regina (Oscar), her son Mark (Cindy), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and host of other family and friends.

A funeral service to celebrate Carrie’s life will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Ms. Carrie was loved very much by myself and my boys. She and Dolan were such great neighbors and loved on us as if we were family. Whenever Carrie would see me out working in the yard, she would make me a cup of coffee (knowing I loved coffee) and some type of sandwich/cookie/snack and bring it over to the fence - making me stop to rest and talk. She was always so generous! We loved going over there and helping her in anyway we could and looked out for her often. Was saddened that I was not able to see her the past few years when she moved from the house, and always asked the family to give her a hug for me. She really was like a Mom/Grandma to us. I'm glad she is at peace resting in the arms of her Lord and being with the rest of her family. Prayers and hugs to her children and family in this difficult time.

My Aunt Carrie loved me Unconditionally! She was a Great example of a Good Christian woman, did I think she was perfect? No but she was close! She meant so much to so many! She has gone to Heaven now to be with so many of our love ones and I know that she did her Best to take all of us there too! I LOVE my Family(all of you)! One day we can all be together with Our LORD!

She called me Josephus....

Sitting at her table being served a glass of her FAMOUS sweet ice tea, talking about everything, knowing all would be kept secret and close to her heart with truth, honesty, love and understanding. My grandma and me had a truly unique grandma grandson relationship. We were alike in many ways......Because she taught them to me. From Sunday school teacher to Bible study mentor. Her thoughts will be missed. Until we meet again✌🏼

Just wanted to say that my husband (Eddie) said out of all my family Aunt Carrie was the best, she was just that kind of person, she loved everyone.

I can remember when you all would visit and my Mom would make crab and Aunt Carrie loved to eat that so I would pick the meat out for her. Then to have pecan pie. It was like Christmas no matter what time of year it was when you all came to visit.
Heaven has another GREAT ANGEL, you will be missed by everyone that knew you! Love you AUNT CARRIE

When Carrie first saw me at church after Kathy pointed me out to her she said, yes but his suit is a little tight. Well it wasn't to long after that she had me in J.C. Penny's and ensured the tailor fitted me correctly and bought my first real suit. As the one I mentioned earlier was a thrift shop special. That was 20 or more years ago although it seems like yesterday. She became my momma that day!
Momma may you rest in the arms of Jesus. I love you.

Anytime I was in Carrie’s presense we would always laugh. She had a joyful, fun spirit she passed onto her children, along with her great love of the Almighty Lord! I loved to hear her stories of her younger days, she was a joy to be with!
