Dr. Charles H. Lockyear entered the kingdom of his Lord on July 24, 2013 after a brief illness in a local hospital. Born in Evansville, IN to the late Allie Angel Lockyear and Walter Lockyear. He married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Schlumpf in 1943. He was a Veteran of World War II and a dedicated churchman.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Catherine, son Charles Lockyear of St. Louis and son Stephen and his wife Vickie of Virginia Beach.
Mr. Lockyear served as the Director of Finance and Treasurer of the Evangelical and Reformed Church which became the United Church of Christ for thirty-two years. He received his doctorate degree from Eden Theological Seminary where he established the Charles H. Lockyear Scholarship Fund. He and his wife enjoyed volunteering at Bayside Hospital until its closing and were supportive members of Tidewater United Church of Christ and Bayside Christian Church. His ashes will be interred in Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, IN.
