Charles William Taylor III

Charles William Taylor III (Chuck) was born in Suffolk, Virginia on May 6, 1952. Chuck is survived by his sister, Sarah Taylor; stepbrother, Kip Redick and stepsister, Kim Redick Forrest. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles William Taylor II, Lucy Taylor Redick, sister Nancy Holmes Taylor and stepfather Jack Hamilton Redick.

Chuck grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and graduated from First Colonial High School. He left home to attend Elon University. After graduation, he went to visit friends in Charlottesville and liked it so much, he decided to make it his home. There he became a DJ and eventually the Station Manager at WTJU on the campus of UVA where he was able to share his love of music and books with his audiences. Many from the area who listened to WTJU will remember his shows and some would have known him as Uncle Chuck.

His passions were music, art, photography and collections, and he worked a variety of jobs, such as WTJU, expressing his passions through his vocation. His vinyl collection was legendary. His taste in music and art was eclectic so most of his vast 5000 plus collection of albums represented all genres. He loved for friends to visit and enjoy his collection. He would curate a show in his living room, helping the audience enter more fully into listening to the art of vinyl recordings. He loved folk art and would take road trips to discover such artists as Howard Finster. His photography included concerts, weddings, special events, family and friends. He was known to give thoughtful gifts to family and friends. Most important, Chuck was and is loved by all who shared life with him.
