It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah “Susie” L. Gregory, a beloved wife, aunt, and friend, who left this world on June 26, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on December 11, 1944, in Norfolk, Virginia, Susie was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her, known for her warmth, kindness, and infectious spirit.
Susie was the cherished daughter of Gilbert L. and Herlon Lassiter. She was a loving sister to her brothers, Lawrence Wayne Lassiter and Lewis Lassiter, who preceded her in death. Susie's family meant everything to her, and she carried the memory of her brothers close to her heart throughout her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, David P. Gregory, whose love and support were central to her happiness. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Gregory and sister in law, Patricia Gregory. Susie was a dear aunt to her nieces, Melody Gregory (fiance- Weston Schomer), Sheila Roth and Cindy Gilbert, and her nephews, Jerry Hazard, Scott Hazard, and Wayne Lassiter. Her extended family included beloved cousins, Mary Ann Flythe, Amy Hardin, Robin Wynne, and Don Jackson; and her beloved friends, Terry and Kathy Brinn, and Gloria Harris, who will all miss her dearly.
Susie had a fulfilling career as a Budget Analyst for the U.S. Government, where she dedicated herself to her work and made lasting contributions to her field. Her analytical skills and attention to detail were admired by her colleagues, and her commitment to excellence shone through in everything she did.
Active in her community, Susie was a valued member of Kempsville Christian Church, where she found a sense of belonging and fellowship. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and shaping her relationships with family and friends.
Beyond her professional and community contributions, Susie had many hobbies and interests that brought her joy. She enjoyed going antiquing, where she would often find treasures that sparked her creativity. Arts and crafts were a passion of hers, allowing her to express her artistic side. Susie loved swimming and spending time floating in the pool, where she found peace and relaxation. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she took great pleasure in cooking for friends and family, always ensuring that everyone felt welcomed and loved around her table.
Susie's legacy is one of love, generosity, and a zest for life. She touched countless lives with her kindness and laughter, leaving behind a world that is better for having known her. As we remember Susie, we celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love that surrounds her memory.
Special Thanks are given to her caregiver, Latoya Williams.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at a later date at Kempsville Christian Church, and all who knew Susie are invited to join in celebrating her extraordinary life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Kempsville Christian Church, 5424 Parliament Dr, Virginia Beach, in her memory. Rest in peace, Susie. You will forever be in our hearts.
