Delores H. Smith, 65, of Norfolk went to be with the Lord early January 10, 2013 where her daughter and son-in-law were by her side. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Bobby Smith and her companion of 25 years, Arthur "Tom" Rose, her parents Clifton and Sudie Hollowell, 2 brothers and her sister. Delores was survived by her son, Kirk Smith of Chesapeake, daughter, Ronda Stark and husband Trey of Norfolk, two grandchildren, Travis (12) and Samantha (7) of Norfolk, and nieces and nephews. Delores was an Oscar Smith High 1964 graduate.
Delores was a PKMS Specialist for New Campaign where she became friends with many great people. Delores will be remembered by many for her dedication to the children of South Norfolk where she would be seen working in the "BIG" orange SNYAA concession truck at Portlock ball fields, the concession at Bailey Hall during Saturday night bingo, and even coaching a girls softball team.
Delores made sure her children were able to participate in the things they loved to do. As children, Delores took them to many sporting events where she would cheer them and their teams on and other times she and her friends would take all their children to Mundens Beach and sledding at Mt. Trashmore, all in the name of fun. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. Any and everyone who knew Delores, knew who Travis and Samantha were. Yes, she was one of those grandmothers who pulled out new pictures of them every time she saw you. She would have them spend the night with her one at a time so they didn't have to compete for her attention.
Delores wouldn't want anyone to be sad about her home going, she would want everyone to remember how much she enjoyed her life here with us. Take comfort in the fact she is now in Heaven with many that she loves and she will be there waiting for everyone.
There will be a Memorial at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home at 601 N. Witchduck Rd, Va Beach, Va, Sunday, January 13 at 6-8 pm and a graveside service, Monday, January 14 at 1 pm. Services will be officiated by Rev. Fred Braswell.
