Donald W. Sterling, 79, met the Lord that he so faithfully served, on September 30, 2021. He was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Thomas and Myrtle Sterling. He was a member and former Deacon of Gateway Church in Virginia Beach. In 1997, he retired from Bell Atlantic after 31 years. Donald was a generous, friendly and kind man, who never met a stranger. In his spare time he liked to travel, spend time with family and friends, and watch Hallmark movies. He laughed easily, and the cornier the jokes the better! He also enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge on how to repair things the "right" way. He is predeceased by his teenage sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Joyce L. Sterling.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Diane Covington (David), David Sterling, Debbie Cash (Vincent), and Donna Kowalke (Robert); sister, Carolyn Sterling; brother, Richard Sterling (Linda); five grandchildren, Melissa, Christopher, Stephanie, Michael, and Evan; six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, extended family and countless friends.
Our loss here on Earth is Heaven's gain, and we will continue to cherish his life and our memories of that life, forever.
The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 PM, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the funeral home with burial in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. You may offer condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
