Dora was funny, smart, and a little sassy with a personality all her own. She brought laughter, warmth, and energy to the lives of those around her. Her quick wit, strength, and unmistakable spark made her memorable, and her family and friends will always cherish the moments that reflected her unique spirit.
Family was at the center of Dora’s life. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were among her greatest joys. She treasured her family and the memories they made together. She also loved to read, play games—especially card games—and follow her favorite sports. A special favorite was UNC Chapel Hill basketball, and her love for the Tar Heels was one of the many things that made her uniquely Dora.
Dora also enjoyed trips to Dover with her friends. These outings gave her opportunities to share laughter, friendship, and good times with people who were special to her. Her love of sports, reading, card games, family, and friendship reflected the many interests that filled her life and brought her happiness.
Dora leaves behind her husband, Sterling; her four children, Elaine, Robin, Sterling Jr. (SG), and Lisa; her grandchildren, Matt, Peyton, Nate, Abigail, and Sydney; her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Bella, Elias, John, Noah, Hanley, and Luke; and her many nieces and nephews. Each of them will carry a part of her with them through the stories they share, the laughter they remember, and the love that continues through their family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Beatrice Roughton; her brother, J.E. Roughton; and her sister, Rena Love.
Dora will be deeply missed, but her laughter, love, and vibrant personality will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family will remember her with gratitude for the joy she brought into their lives, her spirited nature, and the countless memories that will keep her presence close. Whether cheering for the Tar Heels, enjoying a trip with friends, reading a good book, playing cards, or spending time with family, Dora lived life in her own unmistakable way.
Rest peacefully, Dora. You were deeply loved, and you will be greatly missed.
Your spirit, your laughter, and your love will live on through the many lives you touched.
