Durwood Wayne Parrish

Durwood Wayne Parrish, age 84, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 23, 2022. Wayne was born February 22, 1938 in Vance County, NC to the late Merriman Nollie Parrish and Maybelle Stone Parrish. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vancy Parrish, sons Dwayne (Kimberly), David, brother Douglas Parrish (Bea), grandchildren Dalton (Danielle), Hartley (Jeb), Victoria (Darvelle), David Jr. and Savannah, great grandchildren, Delaney, Amelia, Lillian and Delilah and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Carlyle Parrish and sister Barbara Davis. He served four years in the United States Air Force. After the Air Force, he worked in Civil Service for thirty four years - first at the Public Works Center in Norfolk Naval Shipyard followed by Supervisor of Shipbuilding Newport News in the Quality Assurance Department, Audit and Analysis Division. He was then promoted to Government Property Administrator. His last position at SUPSHIP was Assistant Administration Officer. Wayne was ordained as a Deacon at Norview Baptist Church in 1963 and served in this position until he passed away. He was a member of First Baptist Church Norfolk. During his time there, he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Co-Chairman of the Pastor Search Committee and Chairman of the Church Trustees. He also served on the Church Council and was the Administrator for the Shepherd's Class. The funeral will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11am at First Baptist Church Norfolk. A reception will follow in room 300 at the church. Graveside service will be held after the reception at 2pm at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made to First Baptist Church Norfolk, 312 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.
