A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, Mr. Hammitt had retired as a paint mixer for Mattos after many years of service.
Survivors include his wife Valerie C. Hammitt; three daughters, Jennifer Hammitt, Theresa Vines and Crystal Hammitt; four grandchildren, Isaiah Peters, Alex Simmons, Aubrie Vines and Niko Jackson; a sister Susan Hammitt and husband Michael Peterson.
Services will be private.
