Federico “Fred”, “Pedring” Pascasio Fernandez, 80, passed away on September 23, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines, he later moved to the United States after joining the U.S. Navy and spent most of his life as a proud resident of Virginia Beach, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felimon and Josefina Pascasio Fernandez, and his wife of 45 years, Criselda dela Cruz Fernandez.
Fred is survived by his wife of almost 5 years, Catherine Nivera and their dog Cola; his daughter Shirlene Bausas, her husband Rex, and their children Andrew, Ben, and Elizabeth; his son Cyril Fernandez and his wife Joanne; his sister Henydina Odvina; and his brother Charles Fernandez.
Fred retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of honorable service in the U.S. Navy. After his military career, he continued serving his community as a barber at Little Creek Amphibious Base. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, going on cruises, caring for his grandchildren, watching his grandson play baseball, and cheering on his granddaughter in gymnastics and cheer.
He was a member of Coastal Community Church, where he loved Bible studies and fellowship. He also supported mission trips to his hometown through the East Coast San Antonio Association. Fred enjoyed mall walks, karaoke, line dancing with friends, and spending time at home doing projects, tending to his garden and fishing.
He will be remembered for his kindness, his devotion to family, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to live on through those he cherished.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 11, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with family sharing memories at 5:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Entombment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
