Virginia Beach - Florence L. Nugent, 84, died January 5, 2018. Born in New York, raised in Masontown, PA, and spent the remainder of her years in Norfolk, and VA Beach raising her family. Florence never met a dog or person she didn't love, she never met a stranger. She loved to spend time with her children, and grandchildren, and playing the piano. Florence was predeceased by her husband, John F. Nugent, and survived by a large family who cherishes every memory of her, Mary Bassett (Steve), Debra Baker (Skip), Constance Chapman (David), Patricia Ponton (Tony), Jackie Van Pelt (Mark), and George Nugent. She will be missed by her 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, all whom knew and loved her as Granny. Florence requested a private funeral with her family. The family wishes to thank all of those who sent well wishes, and acts of kindness in their time of bereavement. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA.

As long as I live I will not forget my friendship with my Flo she was always on my side come what may. We might not talk but maybe once a year sometime but it was never like any time had passed because of the love we shared. I liked her and she liked me from the first time we met when I was 16 it is hard for me to believe that was 40 years ago. She was a special soul that I was blessed to know my heart and prayers go out to you all...Love Teresa

I am so sorry for your loss. Flo as Jackie affectionately called her when we were growing up always made laugh! She had a great sense of humor.

My thoughts, prayers and deep sympathy goes out to all of Florence's beautiful family. I was richly blessed and became a better person because of the cherished, long friendship I shared with with my former classmate. I miss you already Florence. Thank you for being my beautiful, talented, special, witty, treasured and loved Christian friend. You put joy in my heart. I loved our long conversations. Thank you Florence for your friendship. Prayers and thoughts are with all of you today. Florence was a teenager when I entered the Hoist family. Remember fondly when Grandma Hoist, Cousin Joan and I would board a Greyhound Bus in Uniontown for a journey to DC to visit Florence and her family, at that time only 3 daughters were born, Mary, Debbie and Connie, and all the fun we would have on those trips. They say that we never forget our cousins and when we drift apart and we meet again it is like that we never left and that is what happen when Florence and I reconnected. Was planning a trip to VA Beach to see Florence this month but God had other plans for her.. Memories remain with us forever and I know as a family you have a lot of memories of your Mom and when you get together at a happier time those memories will become part of your lives. Love, your Cousin Darlene
