

Born in Chinquapin, NC, Floy was predeceased by her husbands William “Blackie” Awe and Larry Jordan; son, Randy Awe; and her parents, Isaac and Minnie Hunter. She was the youngest and last surviving of 11 children. She is survived by her son, Fred Awe, his friend, Maria; granddaughter, Dawnyelle; great granddaughter, Melissa; many nieces and nephews including Annie Carol Whaley, Theresa Martin, Faye Brown; and special friends Laurie Gurley and Darla Johnson.
Floy and her husband, Blackie Awe, opened Avalon Cleaners at Robbins Corner, VA Beach, in 1949. Floy was often referred to as “Miss Blackie” during her 40 plus years of operating Avalon Cleaners which is now operated by her son.
Floy was a lifelong member of the Mormon Church. She was a Stake Young Women’s President and served in many other callings which showed her devotion and love to the Heavenly Father.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staffs of the Gifford Wing, Beth Sholom; and Hospice & Palliative Care of Tidewater, especially Lena.
The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, July 2 at 1:00 pm at The Church of Latter-day Saints, 4873 Bonney Rd., VA Beach. Visitation will begin at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
