

In May 1947 Bud enlisted in the US Navy and served on continuous active duty until his retirement in December 1966 at which time he held the rank of Master Chief Electronic Technician. Bud spent his entire Navy career in the Submarine Service on three diesel boats, a tour as Instructor at Submarine School and ended his career on the Nuclear Missile Submarine George Bancroft SSBN 643. He was hired in May 1967 as a GS-11 Field Engineering Representative at Submarine School Groton, CT. He served 10 years at this position ending as GS-12 Senior FER. During this time Bud attended The University of New Haven evenings and received a BS in Operations Management, Magna Cum Laud. (An achievement of which he and his family were very proud, considering he did not complete High School due to joining the Navy at age 17). In 1977 he was promoted to GS-13 and transferred to Naval Base Norfolk, VA to work for the Naval Training Equipment Center. Bud spent 12 ½ years at this location, retiring in 1989 as a GS-14 Program Manager and Division Head.
Bud started his third career in Community Service in 1978 when he joined the Kempsville Lions Club. He served in all Club officer positions and as Lions District Governor of Southeastern Virginia in 1989-90. He became active with the BPD Crime Solvers Unit in 1990 and was active up to his passing. He served in all leadership roles for Crime Solvers, including chairman of the only Crime Stoppers International Conference held in Virginia Beach in 1995. He was the Founding Member of the 4"Police Precinct Citizens Advisory Committee and was its first President. He was also the Founding Member of VBPD Project Lifesaver and was its first President. He was one of three Founding Members of The VPD Police Foundation and served as the first Secretary. His final task was with the FBI Norfolk Office where he attended the 2nd FBI Citizen's Academy class and was requested to form a tax-exempt FBI Citizens Academy Alumni. He served as the Secretary of the Alumni for six years.
Bud found love and companionship in later life with Ann Ellis. She was his Cruise partner, Dance partner, Dining partner, Travel partner and involved in all facets of his life and his family. She passed in January of 2024.
Bud was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his wife, Clementina Warren, his brother, Paul Warren, his brother-in-law, Brian Wade (Kathy) and son-in-law, Robert Nuhn (Deborah).
Bud is survived by his son, Anthony Warren; daughter, Deborah Nuhn; son, Robert Warren (Martha); his Grandchildren, Amy Gerkin (C.J.), Robert Warren, Jr., Bryan Nuhn (Jennifer), Shawn Nuhn (Erica); his Great Grandchildren, Gage Nuhn, Cadence Nuhn and Avery Gerkin, sister Kathy Wade (Ross); and brother, John Warren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9, 2026 at 2:00 pm with a visitation 1 hour prior at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home
