Gary retired in 2023 after a successful professional career as an electrical designer.
Outside of his career, Gary had a deep passion for music. He was an accomplished bass guitar player who performed with many bands throughout the Tidewater area. Whether practicing at home or playing with fellow musicians, music held a huge and meaningful place in his heart. Gary loved attending open mic nights and open blues jams, and almost every weekend he could be found enjoying the talents of local bands and supporting the local music scene. He was well known in the music community and took great joy in talking music and gear with local musicians and friends.
Above all else, Gary loved his dogs. Over the years, he owned many dogs, most of them Labradors. His most recent and beloved companion was Milo, a German Shorthaired Pointer. Gary thoroughly researched training techniques and worked diligently with each of his dogs to ensure they were well trained.
Gary will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, and deep love for his family.
Gary leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kimberly Russell Granger; his parents Edison and Frances Granger; his sisters, Leslie Koehler and her husband Wally Koehler, and Nancy Stultz and her husband Carl Stultz. He is also survived by his niece, Haley Bryant, her husband Spencer Bryant, and their two children, Hayden and Summer; his nephews, Carl Koehler and Shawn Bregant and his wife Rachell Bregant; and their son Logan Bregant. Gary was preceded in death by his niece, Jennifer Bregant.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home.
