Gary Ellis Pittman
June 17, 1930 – April 7, 2021

Gary Ellis Pittman, Sr., 90 years old, passed away on April 7, 2021. Born on June 17, 1930 in New Bern, N.C, he graduated from Waverly High School. In 1952, he graduated from Virginia Military Institute with a Civil Engineering Degree and a regular commission in the US Marine Corps; serving a tour in Korea. He joined Texaco in 1959 and spent 30 years in Operations Management. His career brought him to VA, NC, GA, NY, NJ, TX, and OK. After retiring, he returned to Virginia Beach and worked for Applied Management Engineering (AME). He enjoyed vacationing at his cottage in the Outer Banks and Boy Scouting with his four Eagle Scout sons.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Ray Pittman and Annie Ellis Pittman; his brother, Paul Jr.; and his sisters, Edith Gertz and Daphne Burkette.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra; four sons, G. Ellis (Katherina), Craig, Larry (Stacey), and Blair (Lori); six grandchildren, Julia (Charles Diaz), Thomas, Samantha, Jessica, Tyler and Jackson; great-granddaughter Josephine Diaz; and five nieces.
A graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Monday, April 12th, at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to the VMI Foundation, PO Box 932, Lexington, VA. 24450. You may offer condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
