Geneva was a farm girl who grew up in the country of eastern Michigan. She married her husband, Dennis, at the age of 21 and set out for a life as a military wife, landing her in Virginia Beach, VA. She worked for over 30 years as a Library Secretary at Bayside Elementary School, helping and inspiring young minds to read and grow. To the students at her school, she was known as Mrs. Decker, to her friends as Geneva, and the rest of us knew her as Mom. She was always there for her kids growing up, taking Thomas to baseball, karate, and ROTC events, while running Daniel to soccer practice, Boy Scouts, and theater practice. Geneva always welcomed everyone into her home with an open heart and was known by all her children’s friends as Mom, a term she enjoyed dearly, until she became Grandma “G-ma”. With that title, she fell in love with her granddaughters and lived every moment to put smiles on their faces. Geneva was a wonderful daughter, loving and devoted wife, best mother anyone could ask for, and an endearing grandmother. She will be missed by all the hearts she touched in this world.
Geneva is survived by two children, Thomas and Daniel; Daughter-in-Law Elaine Decker; Son-in-Law Antwyon Givens; and grandchildren, Audrey and Erin. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; and parents Fred and Florence.
A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, on December 5, 2024, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on Witchduck Rd in Virginia Beach, VA.
