George N. Kidd died on March 4, 2021. He was born on August 26, 1939, Oak Park, IL, the son of George C. and Vivian C. Kidd. Mr. Kidd enlisted on 12 February, 1962 in the Naval Officers’ Candidate School, commissioned as an Ensign, U.S. Naval Reserve. After commissioning, he was assigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet, serving on USS PAUL REVERE (APA-248), Navigator; (Augmented & Accepted into the U. S. Navy), and USS MATACO (ATF-86), Executive Officer. His Shore Duty Assignments included are: Resident Supervisor, Conversion & Repair, Culver City, CA, in charge of the Software Test Monitor Group, overseeing the USS SPRUANCE (DD-963) Naval Tactical Data Systems (NTDS) software development. Fleet Combat Directions Systems Support Activity, Dam Neck(FCDSSA), Virginia Beach, VA: Served as U.S. Navy Project Officer for: Submarine Tactical Data Link(STDL), Digital communications for NTDS ships with Forward-deployed submarines, AN/SLQ-32 Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) Set implementation, USS BELKNAP (CGN-26) NTDS Improvement, USS VIRGINIA (CGN-38) Standard Missile 2 (SM-2) Upgrade Integration, USS KIDD (DDG-993) Combat Direction Systems (CDS) Implementation. Mr. Kidd retired from the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1983, upon which he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal during his duty at FCDSSA.
Mr. Kidd’s non-military Activities consisted in the Tidewater Scottish Festival.(Grounds Chairman), St. Andrew’s Society of Tidewater (Co-Founder & President), Clan Fergusson Society of North America (Treasurer), The Royal Canadian Legion, Lord Louis Mountbatten of Burma, Post No.180, Virginia Adjutant),and Williamsburg Scottish Festival (Entertainment Chairman). In his later days, he booked Celtic musicians’ performances in the White Horse Pub, Virginia Beach, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Glennis, daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Jim, stepdaughter, Liz, and granddaughter, Veronica.
