George W. Ridgwell, Jr.

George Wesley Ridgwell, Jr., 84, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was born on November 2, 1929 in Norfolk, Virginia to George Wesley Ridgwell, Sr. and Carrie Francis (Womble) Ridgwell.

George grew up in the community of Hickory, Virginia; later to be known as the City of Chesapeake. He was drafted in the Army in 1950 and served for 2 years. George served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. George began work for Southern Materials in 1947 and retired from Tarmac (Lone Star Industries) as the Marine Manager in 1991 after 43 years.

George Wesley Ridgwell, Jr. married Janet Claire Lambdin (Midcalf) in 1968 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. They were happily married for 46 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and building model aircraft.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George Wesley Ridgwell Sr. and Carrie Francis Ridgwell; and his siblings, Margaret Ann Gibson, Francis Leigh Shoemaker, and William Duvall Ridgwell.

George is survived by his spouse Janet of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his children, Deborah (Paul) Christopher of Norfolk, VA; Michael (Helene) Ridgwell of Virginia Beach, VA; Daniel Lambdin of Virginia Beach, VA; Karen Merritt (Jack McDonough) of Virginia Beach, VA; Laura Lucas (Keith Busch) of Fort Pierce, FL; David (Lisa) Lambdin of Virginia Beach, VA; George (Lisa) Ridgwell of Chesapeake, VA; his 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462 at 2:00PM on Friday, May 23, 2014. A visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
