It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my beloved wife, GEORGIA FOX GAZZAWAY, who went peacefully to our Lord while holding my hand at her bedside on July 30, 2024 at the age of 80. Georgia was a lady of exceptional kindness and loveliness. She was a wonderful wife and companion to her husband Riley, as well as a sister, aunt and friend to many.
Georgia was a native of Virginia Beach, VA growing up in a home filled with lots of love and laughter with her parents and four sisters. She graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1962, and then went on to continue her education at North Carolina Wesleyan and Old Dominion College. In 1966, Georgia married the love of her life, Riley C. Gazzaway. In the early years of their marriage, new job opportunities took them in 1969 to Marietta, Georgia where they would spend the next 55 years working in the floor covering business, building countless friendships, hosting friends and family from Virginia for visits, and making memories filled with joy and happiness that would last a lifetime.
Georgia was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, a bright shining light for Christ in Marietta, and enjoyed being a weekly greeter for many years on Sunday mornings. She and Riley were always so grateful to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for the amount of blessing, love, compassion and fellowship they always received from the body of believers that surrounded them at their church, and they enjoyed giving back when they could in order to help others feel the same truth, belonging and purpose they always felt while attending there.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents George and Shirley Fox, her sister Deborah Fox Hudgins, Uncles Whitefield Ray “Sacky” Polhamus, Earl Polhamus and wife Dorothy, brother-in-law Larry Gazzaway, plus many extended family members from her father’s side in Arkansas.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years Riley C. Gazzaway, her sisters Patricia Fox McMahan (Gary), Dianne Barlow (Steve), Ronnie Young (Rick), brother-in-law Frank Hudgins, sister-in-law’s Krista Vargo and Suzanne Gazzaway, nieces Kedran Brush (Chad), Ashley Breed (Michael), Stacie Reynold (Todd), Courtney Shealy (Aiden), Kristen Ricks (Sean) Adrienne Danner (Scott), Megan- Young (Kirk), Lennaya Lamote (Eric) nephews Aaron Barlow (Michelle), Scott Barlow (Colleen), Coy Young, Trent Gazzaway (Jill), Joe Janega, Viktor Janega as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday August 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church at 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA with a reception immediately following in the Magnolia Room.
