Georgie Lee Hahn Sifers was born on March 1, 1934, in Cameron, Missouri, to James Edward Hahn and Clara Florentine Walker Hahn. Raised on a 380-acre farm, Georgie was the second youngest of six children. She is survived by her beloved sister, Eula Beatrice Hahn Kerr, and reunited in peace with her siblings: James Frederick Hahn, Miller Dwayne Hahn, Marvin Oscar Hahn, and Clara Mae Hahn Sheffler.
Life on the farm was demanding but formative. Georgie and her siblings rose each morning at 3 a.m. to round up and milk the cows before heading off to school. At age 13, she took her first job washing dishes at a local restaurant, earning enough to rent her own room in town for $5 a month. Ever adventurous, Georgie joined the circus at 15 and spent a year traveling up and down the East Coast—a chapter she remembered with pride and delight.
Upon returning home, Georgie met the love of her life, Samuel Keith Sifers. They married on December 31, 1950, and soon after left Missouri when the Navy called Sam to his first station. Their journey together took them across the country, from clam digging in Astoria, Oregon to pineapple-picking dares in Hawaii. Eventually, they settled in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where they built a home filled with love, laughter, and stories.
Georgie and Sam were blessed with three children: Keith Eugene Sifers, Brenda Lee Sifers Prentiss, and Susan Gail Coleman. Georgie enjoyed a fulfilling career in customer service management at Rose’s, where her warmth and dedication left a lasting impression. Even in retirement, she remained active—most often found playing solitaire or Kings in the Corner with her grandchildren, tending her yard, cooking for a small army, or waving to neighbors from her front patio.
After Sam’s passing, Georgie poured her heart into her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in their company and milestones. She is lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses: Brenda Lee Sifers Prentiss and Joseph Patrick Prentiss, and Susan Gail Coleman and Timothy Roger Boyle; her grandchildren and their spouses: Pearl Prentiss Rankin and Jason William Rankin, Tabitha Marie Prentiss-Giddens and Allen Walker Giddens Jr, and Patricia Lynn Prentiss and Mikhail Kanoe Shives; and her great-grandchildren: William Dakota Rankin, Chance McKinley Chapman, Oliver Grimm Chapman, Skylynn Marie Giddens, Maddox Fox Giddens, Juozas Grey Keau Prentiss, and Aspen Rae Giddens.
Georgie never lost her humor, her generosity, or her unwavering love for family and community. Her home was a haven for many, especially during the holidays. Christmas was her favorite—she prepared for it all year long and delighted in the magic of holiday lights. She made sure no one felt alone, always welcoming others with open arms and a warm heart.
She will be deeply missed, but we rejoice in knowing she is reunited with her beloved Sam and the family who went before her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and hospitality lives on in all who knew her.
