

Mrs. Helen Billings Hatcher departed this life peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 88 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Captain Robert William Hatcher of E. St. Louis, Illinois; and her eldest son, Robert William Hatcher, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia.
She is survived by her son, Glen Albert Hatcher and his wife, Vinna, of Chesapeake; a granddaughter, Ashley Billings Hatcher-Peralta of Jersey City, NJ; a grandson, Peyton Whitfield Hatcher of Providence Forge, VA; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her loving caretaker, Dianne Riddle.
Mrs. Hatcher spent the majority of her life in Richmond, Virginia, where she was a secretary for the United States Secret Service, the Federal Housing Administration, and McGuire Veterans Hospital from which she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Ginter Park Woman’s Club, and was a volunteer at Stuart Circle Hospital and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
The family will receive visitors at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd in Virginia Beach on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 7 to 9 pm. She will be interred at a later date beside her husband in Bellville, Illinois.
