Hilda S. “Jerry” Francis, 89, departed peacefully on her journey to be with our Lord on September 24, 2013. She was born in Greenville, NC to William Austen and Isabelle Stokes. She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years Bernard “Bernie” Francis, and her beloved sisters Pat Wynne and Margie Bowers of Greenville.
Hilda graduated from High School in Greenville, NC and shortly after moved to Norfolk, VA in 1942 to work at NARF during the war efforts and retired after 35 years of service. She loved fishing, gardening and eating blue crabs.
She is survived by her only child Gary E. Shook and his wife Lori of Virginia Beach, VA; her constant companion, caregiver and best friend Barbara “Toy” Manwaring; many nieces and nephews, and her extended family in Trinidad.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 1 pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to ALS Association or The Alzheimer's Association. You may offer your condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
