Former New York native, Ignatius A. Signorelli, died February 3, 2021 at the age of 87.
Mr. Signorelli was born October 5, 1933 to Anthony and Fannie DeSio Signorelli. He grew up in East Harlem with siblings Nicholas, Anthony, Catherine and Carmella. Nattie, as his family called him, attended Cardinal Hayes High School before joining the United States Navy, where he served as a Naval Flight Officer, earning ten air medals during combat in Vietnam. Upon his retirement in 1979, he received a degree in Health Science from Old Dominion University and then practiced Healthcare Infection Control for thirty years.
Sig, as he was known by his friends, enjoyed being a member of his trail club and backpacked 1200 miles of the Appalachian Trail. He volunteered with the US Forest Service, the Adult Learning Center, the Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad and Operation Smile. He loved a good book, and enjoyed discussing them with friends.
He was married to Linda Fendley Signorelli for 57 years, before her death in 2018.
He is survived by his sister Catherine Lowe of Long Island, NY; sister-in-law Diana Signorelli of Syracuse, NY; his son Frank Signorelli and wife Kitty of Virginia Beach, VA; his daughter Lisa Kerr and husband Geoff of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Jessica Kerr, Taylor Kerr Resnick and husband Michael, and Christopher Signorelli, as well as an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private and is being handled by Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home.
