

Jim was born in N. Wildwood, NJ to Charles L. and Helen E. Bonner on Nov. 30, 1933. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, who served honorably for 21 years. After military retirement, he continued to serve the country as a civil servant in Virginia Beach until he retired in 1998. He continued working in his own business until moving to Greensboro, NC in 2002.
A dedicated catholic, he was actively involved with Holy Spirit parish in Virginia Beach and more recently a parishioner at St. Pius X in Greensboro. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4642 where he served as Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #1884 in Greensboro.
He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his grandchildren who called him “Pappap”. Second only to his grandchildren, was his love for the Philadelphia Eagles and all other Philly teams! He will be remembered as an avid fisherman who loved being out on the water in his boat all year long, regardless of temperature.
Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth, his parents and his sister Mary Anne Lawler.
He is survived by his daughter and husband, Catherine and Mike Kernels of Greensboro NC; son and wife, Jim and Michelle Bonner of Mechanicsville, VA; four grandchildren: Kathryn, Christopher and Madison Bonner and Olivia Kernels; brother Charles and wife of Bensalem, PA; sister Corrine Jordan and husband of Portland, OR.
Visitation will be held at Holy Spirit Church in Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012 at 12:00 noon; with a funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
