Mr. Newbern was born in Norfolk and was preceded in death by his parents James Newbern Sr., and Lillian Newbern and a sister Shirley A. Garrett.
Mr. Newbern was a former drummer playing for bands such as The Four C’s in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He also retired from the Norfolk Postal Service as a Supervisor for 35 years of service.
Survivors include his three children, Michael E. Newbern and wife Liz, Jeffrey A. Newbern and wife Ana and Robin Walker and husband Richard; 4 grandchildren Ryan Spivey, Tristan Walker, Amanda Conner and Elaine Newbern; 7 great grandchildren T.J., Lyla, Jamison, Emilia, Ryker, Jace and Perrin; a brother Leonard Newbern and a sister Fay Reynolds.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk.
