Janet Mackenzie Shipman, 85, of Virginia Beach, went to be with the LORD Thursday August 13, 2026. Janet was born in the town of Ayr, Scotland and became a US citizen after marrying her late husband Gilbert H. Shipman. She was also the mother of the late Jennifer Gael Shipman who went to be with the LORD just this past May.
Janet was a dignified, polite, and private lady who was very sweet, kind, and resourceful. She was actively involved in many areas of church life ─ especially the Women On Mission Ministry and singing in the choir. Being skilled in mathematics, Janet was the long-time finance team leader and the church treasurer. For the last 30 years she was the dedicated Office Manager for AV Associates where she faithfully assisted the owner, Mike Rashkind.
Over the last several weeks, Janet received excellent care at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, and exceptional care at Maimonides Health and Rehab in Virginia Beach.
Janet’s legacy is one of a deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her life reflected that truth.
A funeral will be held Saturday August 22, 2026, at Discovery Church located at 4881 Euclid Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM and the Funeral will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to the Parking Lot Fund at Discovery Church.
