Jean Marie Harrison Sullivan, 95, joined God’s choir in heaven on September 11, 2025. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, she was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Edward H. Sullivan, her parents, Hazel and Roy Harrison, and her sisters, Claire “Ditty” Fournier and Shirley Miller.
She is survived by her children, David Sullivan and his wife, Cindy; Mark Sullivan; Stacy Whitt; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Sullivan; as well as her sister, Dorothy Howerin, and four loving nieces and nephews. As “Nana,” she leaves her grandchildren, Brian, Michael, and Matthew Sullivan, J.C., Sean, and Gabrielle Whitt, as well as eight great-grandchildren.
She loved to sing and play the piano and organ. As a high school teenager, she served as the organist for Brambleton Avenue Methodist Church and graduated from Maury High School in 1948. As a woman of strong Christian faith, she was a dedicated member of Calvary Presbyterian Church for 58 years, serving as organist, church secretary, and choir member. The effects of dementia dimmed her final years, but she recognized her family and miraculously still played the piano. The family is grateful for the team of caregivers at The Waterford Assisted Living in Virginia Beach and those with Interim Hospice for making her final years comfortable.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 10:00 am, with public visitation beginning at 9:30 am. In place of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations go to the King’s Choir of Hampton Roads, PO Box 15164, Chesapeake, VA 23328, or online at www.kingschoir.org.
