Jewel Christal Burns

Mrs. Jewel Christal Burns (Jackson) 91, of Norfolk, VA passed away peacefully on June 3, 2021, with her husband, Ernest, by her side.

Jewel was born on April 27, 1930 in North Carolina. Jewel married the love of her life Ernest, on October 27, 1949. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed many things in life such as eating out weekly with her husband at their favorite restaurant, going shopping, playing card games, and cooking family meals.

Jewel is reunited in heaven with her daughter Barbara Ann Burns; her mother Bessie Halcomb; her sister Hilda Stairs; her brothers SB and JD Jackson; and grandchildren Christian Smith and Aaron Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ernest Burns; her sister, Verneddral Lovelady; her daughters, Mary Ann Smith; Stella Godbey and her husband Jason; grandchildren, April Hartsock and her husband William; Christal Griffin and her husband Wesley; Kimberly Broderick and her husband James; Charles Smith, Victoria Godbey and Christopher Smith. Jewel is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Deavon, Raven, Ruby, Daniel, Ethan, William Jr, Noah, Gracelyn, and Maddie.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
