

Norfolk - John T. Maccioli, 90, of the 100 block of Gilpin Ave., died Feb. 22, 2011 at DePaul Hospital. John was born in Blairsville, PA on Feb. 28, 1920. He graduated from St. Vincent’s College in Latrobe, PA. John served as a meteorologist in the Army Air Corps in WWII, and later worked in the fields of chemistry, industrial hygiene, scientific intelligence, and environmental health and safety.
John was a lifelong musician. He joined his first band at age 9, played with dance bands throughout his life, and was a member of the Hampton Roads Metro Band at the time of his death.
John was happily married to Virginia Maccioli (deceased) for 62 years. They were both members of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Marianne Michaels and husband Al of Virginia Beach, Teresa McConnel and husband Pat of Fairfax, and Christine Maccioli of Staunton; 4 grandchildren, David and Michael Hood, and John Paul and Katie McConnel; and 4 great grandchildren, Phillip and Charlotte Hood, and Sophie and Joey Hood.
A service will be held at 11:00a.m on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, followed by entombment at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family requests that a Mass be offered for Mr. John Maccioli, or donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
