Virginia Beach - Joseph L. Hawkins, 93, passed away Jan. 25, 2017. He was born in Norfolk, VA on March 28, 1923. Mr. Hawkins was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Air Force. He owned and operated Princess Anne Pile and Lumber Co. and he was also a mason of the Doric Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hawkins was devoted to his family. He believed there was always a new road to explore and greatly enjoyed his extensive travel with his loving wife.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley H. Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Anne G. Hawkins; children, Christopher Hawkins and his partner Tony Baselici, JoAnne Godwin and her husband George, and Karen Ciccone and her husband Dr. Alvin; five grandchildren, Christopher (Joy), Jennifer (Mike), Benjamin (Portia), Matt, and Tyler (Christine); nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.
