

Joyce Bowden Forehand, 84, of Chesapeake, passed away peacefully on March 28, while in hospice care. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Edna (Capps) and Augustus W. Bowden, the fourth child of six. Devoted and loving wife of the late CDR Hersey Forehand, USCG (ret.), and the late Raymond K. Bousman Jr. Beloved mother of Raymond K. (Sharon) Bousman III. Left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Julia (Mark) Vertreese, Raymond K. Bousman IV, and SSGT Richard E. (Rachael) Bousman, USMC, and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Augustus W. Bowden Jr., Eric R. Bowden, and sister, Audrey B. Hines. She is survived by her brothers Stewart (Jean) Bowden, Albert Bowden, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joyce graduated from Maury High School in 1950. She began working for C&P Telephone (Verizon) while in high school. Joyce had a successful career. She rose from telephone operator to marketing executive of the mid-Atlantic region. Joyce was an avid gardener and member of Azalea Acres Garden Club. She enjoyed square dancing with Hersey in Currituck County, North Carolina. Joyce was happiest in the sunshine surrounded by the water, family, and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Dominion Village for their loving care.
