Joyce Catherine Harrison

Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her parents Lester Preiss and Catherine Ruane Preiss. She was active in the community serving on local PTA School Boards in Virginia Beach. She was former VP of the Kellam Band Parents Association and Girl Scout Troop organizer for the Girl Scouts in the Windsor Oaks neighborhood and a member of St. Gerard’s Guild, a member of National Alliance of Mentally Ill of Virginia Beach and was active in Holy Spirit Catholic Church ministries. She served Virginia Beach Social Services as the Director of the Holiday Project and worked with Volunteers of America with the Homeless Shelters in Virginia Beach.

Survivors include her loving husband of fifty-six years, William A. Harrison, five children, Karen Purnell (Brian), Sharon Simon, Michelle Streuli (David), Maureen Busam (Mike) and William A. Harrison, Jr., seven grandchildren, Christopher Simon, Sean Purnell, Lauren Simon, Katherine Purnell, Jeremy Busam, Christina Busam and Katelyn Streuli and three great grandchildren, Serena Simon, Kayleigh Busam and Zo’ee Simon; a sister, Carole Salak (Bill) and a brother, L. Gerard Preiss.

The family will receive friends at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
