Obituary of Lee Wells
Wyman "Lee" Wells Jr. Lee Wells left his earthly home surrounded by his loving family and best friend, John Hilliard, on December 21, 2017. He was born on August 28th, 1946 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Lee was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Kathy. His wonderful brother in law, Stan Phillips, was also there to welcome him home. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Melissa Hopkins and Lori Wood, their husbands Ron Hopkins and Jonathan Wood and his grandchildren Trent, Aaron, Anna and Ty. His dedicated sister Cathy Phillips and nephews Jeffrey Phillips and Justin Phillips and their spouses as well as numerous family and friends will miss his presence in their lives. Lee spent the majority of his youth in Bradford, Pennsylvania where he was employed by Owens-Illinois. In 1985, he moved his family to Virginia Beach, VA where he worked for St. Joe Container Company and retired from International Paper. However, Papa was his most cherished role. He was always there for his grandchildren and attended as many activities that he could. It was not unusual to see him sitting on the side of a soccer field watching Trent, Aaron and Ty play and cheering them on regardless of the weather. He was also very supportive of his only granddaughter, Anna, by attending orchestra concerts, dance recitals and field hockey games. Of his many treasured roles, Lee was a supportive and devoted husband to his wife Kathy. Lee and Kathy shared a deep friendship and marriage spanning over 45 years. It gives his family comfort to know that he is finally reunited with the love of his life whom he missed so much. Lee's second family was the Moose Lodge. He had been a member since 1990 and had served in every position on the board of officers. He was a past membership chairman, community service chairman and most impressively he had served most of his Moose career as either the Chair or Co Chair of the Lodge Moose Legion Activities Committee. He was a Fellow of The Order, a past Governor who had served 2 previous years as Governor and held the position as the current Governor. A special thank you all of his friends at the Moose Lodge. You have always been there to support him, give him comfort in times of grief, create fun and unforgettable memories and more often than not, get in trouble! His daughters are incredibly blessed to know so many amazing friends that helped take care of him and his family for the last 30 years. We would also like to thank his friends and long time neighbors Anne and Pete Smith. We could never repay the peace of mind knowing that you were always there to watch over Lee and George. Lee participated in many pool leagues and won several trophies that are proudly displayed in his home and at the Moose Lodge. He was affectionately called the "King" when playing pool due to his remarkable talent. He was a fierce Cleveland Browns fan. No matter how terrible they were he loyally supported them. His legacy however, was how he cared for his family and friends. He was kind, funny, smart and had a peculiar sense of humor. Lee's presence will be sorely missed by us all including his sidekick dog, George. Lee's memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th, 2018 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home located at 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Interment to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. A reception will be held immediately following at the Aragona Moose Lodge located at 3133 Shipps Corner Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mooseheart, 155 South International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539, (630) 966-2300 (www.mooseheartcharities.org).
