Leslie was born on December 18, 1939, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Lester Lee and Helen Lambert Lee. She lived a life centered on faith, family, love, and devotion to those around her.
On September 3, 1966, Leslie married the love of her life, Guy Kolmer Hess Jr. Together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September 2026. They built a beautiful life together in Virginia Beach, where they lovingly made their home for 47 years. Their marriage was a testament to love, faith, commitment, and devotion to family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Guy Kolmer Hess Jr.; her son, John Monroe; her daughter, Marion Hess; her daughter, Karla Moller and her husband, John Moller; and her cherished grandchildren: Dustin Hess, Alyssa Morris, Skylar Moller and his wife Sarah Moller, Mandi Moller, Ashley Moller, Wesley Moller and his wife Mandy Jo Moller, Carissa Unruh and her husband Barak Unruh, Noel Strawn and her husband Skyler Strawn, Angelica Miller and her husband Zach Miller, Faith Monroe, Luke Monroe, John Monroe, Mark Monroe, and Matthew Monroe.
She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Everly, Anna, Ariel, Amelia, Judah, Zion, and Noble, and eagerly anticipated the arrival of another great-granddaughter, Abigail.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Lee and Helen Lambert Lee, and her beloved sister, Muriel Reynolds.
Leslie found joy in life's simple blessings and creative pursuits. She loved playing the organ and keyboard, painting, wood carving, soap carving, crocheting, and listening to her favorite hymns. She especially cherished spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. More than anything, she treasured being surrounded by those she loved. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love.
Those who knew Leslie will remember her gentle spirit, caring heart, and unwavering devotion to her family. She touched countless lives through her kindness, encouragement, creativity, and the love she freely shared. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and the memories she created with them will be treasured for generations.
As Romans was Leslie's favorite book of the Bible, her family finds comfort in these words:
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
— Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love, faith, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. The family takes comfort in knowing that Leslie is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Leslie's honor. Through this gift, Leslie's legacy of love, compassion, and caring for others can continue to make a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer.
