

Born in Port Washington, New York to German immigrants who arrived in 1925, Ludwig and Louise Kist Schindler. He had one brother, Alphonse Silver Schindler who passed away in 1959 at 22 years old. Louis went to Bayside High School in Bayside, New York and graduated in 1949.
Louis joined the Navy in 1950 and retired after 26 years as a Master Chief. He worked on helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. Duty stations include: Newport, RI, Memphis, TN, Jacksonville, FL, Pensacola, FL, Dallas, TX, Key West, FL, Quonset Point, RI, Beeville, TX, Lakehurst, NJ, Norfolk, VA, and San Diego, CA.
He met Pauline Smith in Dallas, Texas and they married in 1952 and had five children - Steven, Tina, Scott, Andrea and Louis Jr. Louis and Pauline divorced and after several years, Louis met and married Soko Ikegami in 1978 and they were residents of Virginia Beach for 43 years. He retired from the Navy in 1977. Soko preceded him in death one year prior.
Soko also had two children from a previous marriage, Grace and Michael Moody. Louis loved them and treated them like his own children.
Louis is survived by his children, step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
His hobbies included carpentry, upholstery, building models of airplanes, cars and helicopters, gardening, raising blueberry bushes, and entering sweepstakes on his computer in his latter years.
A funeral service was held at Brackney Funeral Services in Crestview, FL on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
A graveside service will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Monday, December 11, 2:00 pm at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach.
