Lydia Cordelia Steward Ways, 86, of Virginia Beach, VA., passed away peacefully at home Saturday evening, April 30, 2022. Lydia leaves many family and friends to cherish her memory, her wonderful heart, and endearing personality, which we all will hold close during our own remaining journey.
Lydia is survived by her three children; Martha, Erik and Steven; and her five grandchildren; Thomas, Andrew, Edward, Margaret and Lane. Lydia is also survived by her loving Sister Martha and Brother-in-law Edward; their four children, Stuart, Kenneth, Lydia and Keith; and in-laws, Harvey and Debra. All of whom were blessed by her presence.
Lydia is predeceased by her parents Luther Corwin Steward and Margaret Mattare Steward, and her Son Kirk Arthur Ways.
Lydia was born in Washington D.C. on January 26, 1936, and was raised in a good Christian home. She graduated high school and went on to the University of Maryland, becoming the homecoming queen as a freshman. She married soon after, raising four children as a dedicated mother and Navy wife; traveling extensively with her brood, and without, as her children grew to adulthood. She took her place in the workforce as the office manager for a dentist while enjoying her passions for the ocean, the beach lifestyle, traveling abroad, and her lovely Bayfront residence.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach, Tuesday, May 10; with burial to follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park.
