Manuel Vicera Calayo

Virginia Beach - Manuel Vicera Calayo passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 27, 2018. Manny was born in Long Beach, California on February 26, 1967 to Manuelito and Maria Aurora Calayo. The family moved to the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area in 1970 where he was raised. Manny received degrees from Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia. He enjoyed working for many years as the Team Coordinator in the Electrophysiology Lab at Sentara Norfolk General Heart Hospital with co-workers he considered as family. He was a life-long artist, singer, songwriter and musician, and he influenced his sons to always maintain a passion for the arts. He will leave a legacy of love, music and laughter to be carried on through the lives of his wife, Tina Calayo, whom he was with for 32 years; and his children, Christian, Gabriel and Noah. He is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Aurora V. Calayo; sister, Maria Melani V. Calayo; and grandparents, Julio and Taciana Vicera; Felix and Delfina Calayo. He is survived by his father, Manuelito Calayo; and siblings, Melina Heitkamp, Marydawn Bovatsek and Mitchell Calayo, along with many other members of the Calayo and Wolszczenski/Mayhue extended families. Visitation will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018 at the Church of St. Gregory the Great with burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. Manny’s life may have seemed too short to many, however those whose lives were touched by Manny know that the impact of his existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which he lived with us on earth. He is now reunited with the Lord and his family in Heaven……..and no doubt immediately signed up to sing/perform with the heavenly choir and band of angels. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations are being accepted to support the college education of his three sons.
