Margaret C Mountcastle

Margaret Lee Culpepper Mountcastle died February 17, 2011, at the home of her daughter, Debby Garth in Charlottesville, Virginia. She spent her final days surrounded by her loving daughters, sons-in law, and grandchildren.

She was born in Deep Creek, Virginia to Polly Virginia Spence Culpepper and George Washington Culpepper. The youngest of 13 children, Margaret was orphaned at age 6 and spent much of her childhood in the care of her sisters. She graduated from Craddock High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, and as a young woman, studied nursing.

At the age of 20, she married Charles Clarence Mountcastle, Jr. They settled in Norfolk, Virginia, where Mrs. Mountcastle was a homemaker while her husband worked at the Naval Air Rework Facility.

Margaret and Charles were active members of Tabernacle Church of Norfolk and supported the various ministries of the church. She devoted much of her time and energy to caring for those who were sick and homebound. Other interests included gardening, sewing of all kinds, and traveling to visit friends.

Mrs. Mountcastle is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Thelma and Harold Thornton of Elmwood Park, NJ, Debby and David Garth of Charlottesville, VA, Barbara and Ben Johnson of Charlottesville, VA, Charlene and Lou Page of Norfolk, VA, Susie Mountcastle of Culpeper, VA, Becky and Allen Jones of Leesburg, VA and Stephanie and Doug Noffsinger of Grafton, VA; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clarence Mountcastle in 1982.

The visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk, 7000 Granby Street, Norfolk, VA, 23505. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or GFV International House
